Chemicide announce New Album 'Self Devour'
Hailing from Costa rica, with five full length albums and an ep under their belt, CHEMICIDE have become one of the biggest neck breaking thrash metal acts in Latin America and have continued to tour around the globe in DIY mode that has helped them grow steadily in the metal community.
CHEMICIDE have been perfecting their unapologetically bombastic frenetic riffwork and drumming savagery , now resulting in their strongest , rawest and most punishing new album 'Self Devour' .
CHEMICIDE band leader Frankie comments about their new album ' Self Devour ':
« We started the concept of this album last year after the Euro Tour and we wanted something completely raw. We have done many albums before and they sound great but we wanted something completely different. The idea was to do a record that has sort of a live feeling where you can feel that you're in the room with us, like the albums that we grew up listening to, that had space, that weren't completely digital, absolutely polished and "perfect" in a way that, you know everything went through 20 layers of compression and editing.
We've obviously had many influences for this album like: Kreator, Demolition Hammer, Hypnosia, Vio-Lence etc... but at the same time, we didn't want our sound to be like theirs. We wanted our own sound, wanted to be like them in a way that they found their own sonic style and opened up a path that took them to different places.
The album talks about us trying to be part of a society, that just eats you whole. Is a malfunctioning body made of other individuals consuming itself, over and over again. You think you are part of something but you are just fuel to keep the machine going and the fuel that keeps it moving is your life and your desire to belong.
I wanted to include a cover as we've been doing for a while, and I grew up listening to punk and hardcore, so I thought of Inside Out. I proposed the idea of doing "Redemption" as a cover because the lyrics are way too relevant for this day in age but we put our style to it and changed it up a bit.
This is an album that might go against what the music industry expects of metal bands nowadays. We barely edit it. It doesn't have a "prestine" sound. We left our mistakes in; we tried to keep it as real as possible, so when people listen to it, we can stand out from the other albums coming out.
And lastly, if people don't like it, there's really nothing we can do.
We absolutely love it. »
