Mackenzy Mackay releases "Cats & Dogs"
Rising UK singer-songwriter Mackenzy Mackay today releases his new single, Cats & Dogs. The evocative track is a heartfelt ode to growing up in Britain, injected with the warmth and wisdom of a songwriter old beyond his years. The Yorkshire-born artist has captivated millions with his raw and relatable songwriting and, alongside recent singles ‘This Life’ and ‘Broke’, he uses ‘Cats & Dogs’ to delve even deeper into his life story with the honesty and vulnerability that have quickly established him as one of the most compelling and authentic new voices in music.
The single's release will be followed by the unique sold out 9-date UK ‘Stripped Back’ Tour in November. All tickets for the accessible tour were capped at just 10, a move Mackenzy Mackay says is a tribute to his fans and his own difficult upbringing.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Mackenzy says, "This song is about growing up in the UK, how it rains a lot but it never did us any harm. This is where I was brought up and it made me who I am today—it’s simultaneously broken and built me at the same time. Wrote this with a couple mates while we were staying in an air bnb, this song is just about my home. Everyone’s hometown has its flaws, but it makes them who they are.
Since his viral moment on Instagram at the end of 2022, which saw his followers explode from 10,000 to over 300,000 in just a few months, Mackenzy has become a breakout star. Known for blending poignant pop melodies with an urgent, hip-hop-influenced delivery, his music has resonated on a massive scale, amassing over 400 million streams.
