Mykki Blanco Releases New Single "Butt Sex", From Forthcoming Album, CAFE PARADISO

Mykki Blanco today releases new single “Butt Sex”, the second track taken from his forthcoming album, CAFE PARADISO, out on 4 September 2026 via Transgressive Records.

One of the album's most striking and uncompromising tracks, the undeniable party anthem "Butt Sex" finds Blanco at his most playful, provocative and self-assured. Blending a sharp sense of humour and radical honesty, the track explores desire, intimacy and queer liberation through his singular lens. Calling all his “baddies to the floor” while banishing the “uglies”, Blanco turns the album's sensuality outward, more direct, more mischievous and openly communal.

“Butt Sex” arrives alongside charismatic and humorous visuals directed by filmmaker, artist and collaborator Matt Lambert which follow Blanco frolicking through trains and underground stations, transforming everyday commuter spaces into sites of playful mischief, flirtation and queer joy. The video was shot on a Sunday morning in Berlin, in minus 10 degree temperatures in January, and features theatre and film actors Ali and Klemens.

Mykki Blanco said he following about the track:

I am in the golden era of my own career and I know it and the gratitude that I feel about my life and about how lucky I am to be an artist is never lost on me. I think because the world is so much harsher now, because these creative arenas are so saturated it’s probably even more amplified. We get to play in front of world as a job. We get to investigate our ideas and the inner workings of our niche desires and send that out to thousands of people. Matt Lambert is someone who brings out the very best in me, he pushes me to keep being clever and not rest on my laurels or resort to any kind of quick gimmick. He's very process-oriented but also open enough to know that essentially the best art is always dependent on how alive the moment is.

"Butt Sex" is a fast paced spy thriller. It's a high speed caper, you’re ducking you’re dodging bullets you’re taking a piss in the bad guy’s car. Working on "Butt Sex" with producers Patrick Holland and Physical Therapy was a riot in the studio. I spent hours trying to layer production with my own voice, screaming, moaning, groaning, humming it was mayhem. Then the boys started creating this insanely catchy fast paced electro pop bassline and all of sudden my screams found a home.”

Matt Lambert said the following about the video:

“It was like coming home to make something with Mykki again - Mykki having taken a break from music and myself music vids for a few years - and around 10 years from the start of our first collaborations. Our creative energy together is one of the most magical ones I’ve had in my life and this being an artefact of that.

It was such a reset to play like this - having come off the last couple years of playing on stage at Volksbühne in Berlin. It was just a few of us with DV cams - choreo in the kitchen. Mykki and I producing together and touching so many of our ref as kids of the same generation... and to make something heartfelt and human in a moment that’s fighting for those things plus some good old campy, feel-good fag**try”.

“Butt Sex” will be released as a 3-track single with extended Dance and Dub mixes.

“Butt Sex” follows recent single “Little Feet”, which currently sits on the BBC Radio 6 Music B-List and offered the first glimpse into the cosmopolitan, after-hours world of CAFE PARADISO. While its predecessor revelled in nocturnal glamour and introspection, “Butt Sex” throws open the doors to the party, capturing Blanco at his most carefree, charismatic and unabashedly fun.

On CAFE PARADISO, Blanco emerges completely reborn, trading the persona-driven theatrics of previous releases for something more interior, sensual and exacting. Drawing inspiration from a life lived in transit - from New York lunch counters and East Village dive bars to Paris cafés and the tea houses of Tangier - the album assembles what Blanco calls “a record for artsy kids”, a soundtrack for “cosmopolitan aesthetes to sit alone in a café and work on crafting the life of their dreams, or just make sense of it.

If Blanco’s catalogue has long been defined by constant reinvention, CAFE PARADISO represents a new kind of clarity. Following 2022’s Stay Close to Music and the 2023 Postcards from Italia EP, Blanco stepped away from recording to pursue a Master in Fine Arts in Switzerland, deepening a multidisciplinary visual art practice before returning to songwriting with renewed focus.

“I love creating music but I’ve never liked the idea of being a one-trick pony”, Blanco explains. “I need to check some things off my ‘Life List.’”

CAFE PARADISO moves fluidly between styles and scenes, pulling together fragments of dance music, art pop, underground club culture and genre-splicing experimentation into what Blanco describes as a “three-act play” or “a festival album”, citing references as diverse as Saint Etienne, The Silver Apples and Towa Tei.

At its core, however, CAFE PARADISO is an album about stillness, observation and the quiet intensity of being alone in public. “It’s not a point A-to-B record, or a pre-game record”, Blanco says. “It’s an album about enjoying your own company”.

CAFE PARADISO does not mark a rupture so much as a refinement in the career of Mykki Blanco. Drawing together years of experimentation across music, performance, and visual art, which has seen him collaborate with artists including Arca, Basement Jaxx, Charli XCX, Jamila Woods, Blood Orange, Kelsey Lu, Michael Stipe, Anohni and Jónsi, this album arrives at a point of transient clarity - it is a confident statement of intent, positioning Blanco not simply as a shape-shifter, but as an artist in full command of his present form.
