Nejvex and KIDMAN Examine Distorted Post-Breakup POVs via Pop-Driven Melodic Bass Single "Heartless" via Heaven Sent
Nejvex and KIDMAN unite on “Heartless,” a melodic bass-driven electro-pop single arriving February 27th via SLANDER’s Heaven Sent. Serving as the lead release from their forthcoming collaborative EP, the track captures two emerging artists converging at the crossroads of emotionally-charged songwriting and forward-leaning bass production.
The collaboration sparked at ICON Collective in Los Angeles, where Czech-born producer Nejvex and Australian singer-songwriter KIDMAN connected after both relocated to pursue music full-time. Despite coming from opposite ends of the genre spectrum, they found common ground in pop-driven EDM—a balance that defines “Heartless.”
Written around a post-breakup shift in perspective, the record traces the unraveling of idealized love into something far more toxic. KIDMAN’s aching, vocal fry-laced rap delivery paints polarized images of a former partner, grounding the track in confessional intensity.
Nejvex mirrors that emotional tension in the production. Wistful piano chords and cinematic alt-rock builds give way to a melodic trap drop marked by swinging horn leads, stabby color bass coinflip fills, and glitch-textured sub-bass growls. The drop oscillates between luminous melody and dirtier low-end passages, subtly reflecting the push-and-pull dynamic of an unhealthy relationship. It’s a seamless fusion of bass weight and pop immediacy engineered for impact.
Touching on why the fusion of their two styles fit so seamlessly, Nejvex shares: “I think the collaboration came about pretty naturally. We come from opposite ends of the spectrum genre-wise; he loves the pop world and I've always been into more heavy electronic music. But we both have a shared love for pop-driven EDM. ‘Heartless’ is the perfect combination of both of our worlds, encompassing both bass and pop in a super unique way.”
Delving deeper into the origin story, KIDMAN recounts: “The topline for ‘Heartless’ was originally a last minute homework assignment. Milo [Nejvex] later asked me if he could take it and do some things with it. He sat at the kitchen table for the next few hours, slaving away at the song. I went to the hot tub and when I came back, he'd already made a drop and rough arrangement. It sounded crazy.”
For Nejvex, “Heartless” continues a steady rise within the global bass landscape. The LA-based producer—originally from a small village in Czechia—has drawn recognition from Chime, Ace Aura, Virtual Riot, Au5, and Skybreak, with support from BBC Radio 1’s Charlie Tee, Franky Nuts, and Monstercat following his 2024 two-track release, ‘I Want Your Love / Hyperion.’ He recently returned to Heaven Sent with a remix for SLANDER and San Holo’s “Broken Hearted,” further solidifying his relationship with the imprint.
Australia’s KIDMAN, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter and producer, approaches music as a reflection of his own experiences. Rooted in hip-hop, pop, rock, and R&B, his songwriting leans into emotional honesty, shaping personal moments into direct, hook-driven records that balance vulnerability with melodic instinct.
With “Heartless,” Nejvex and KIDMAN establish a collaborative identity rooted in contrast: heavy yet melodic, raw yet refined. As the first glimpse into their forthcoming EP, the single signals a partnership built on versatility and a shared instinct for emotionally resonant dance music.
