Nina K announces 'On Ice', out on Nov 27th

Inspired by "divas" from her childhood – Mariah Carey, Sade, Sinead O’Connor and Enya – Nina K has made an dreamy pop album. 9 songs dealing with dark existential topics such as how do you survive the death of a child? - based on events in her personal life.

The album title ”On Ice” both implies glittery childhood fantasies and reflections on eternity and immortality. A collision of two disparate worlds shaping the most important work of her career.

Big voices and powerful personas has always been important. A musical home. But Nina has never been interested in being just a voice. She is a true craftswoman at heart, handling every little detail and decision in the process on her own. A ”DIY-diva, and a music auteur, handpicking only the most suitable collaborators. This time Alex ”Lexxx” Dromgoole (Björk, Jessie Ware, Angel Haze, Fatima Al Qadiri) as mixer, and spaced-out experimental musician and synth wizard Daniel Fagge Fagerstrom (Optic Nest, The Skull Defects) as co-producer. The result is a dreamy pop record of harps, flutes, 90’s Enigma-beats, floaty synthesizers and lyrics based on true love and true death.

In 2010, after her science fiction inspired fourth album “Red Leader Dream”, Nina Kinert put her artist career on ice, indefinitely. Changing her name due to marital reasons she entirely let the Kinert part of her die and started to explore new kinds of science and new parts of herself. The music never fully stopped though.

She started lending out her writing skills and vocals to others, exploring the worlds of modern electronic disco and dance pop with acts such as Tomas Barfod (with whom she wrote November Skies and Pulsing i.a), WhoMadeWho, Nadastrom and CMG to name a few. And in between studio sessions she took a bachelor degree in film studies while touring intensively as a part of Ane Brun’s backing band once again. Being ”on ice" turned out to be a process in itself and the birth of a new beginning.
