Nxdia - Egyptian-Sudanese alt-pop breakout star returns with sleek new single 'Cool'
Today Egyptian-Sudanese queer alt-pop breakout star Nxdia has returned with new single ‘Cool’, a sleek new offering that finds them embracing the pleasure and power that comes along with self-discovery and the exploration of desire.
Blending deft bilingual lyrics with hooky alt-pop melodies and tell-all lyrics, ‘Cool’ grapples with the perils of dating culture as Nxdia bottles up the sense of freedom and spontaneity that comes with casual encounters.
Born from personal experience navigating dating, Nxdia explains: “I'm in my hoe era and I wanna celebrate that! Seeing what works, what feels good and what doesn't is a fun process. I hate this whole aversion to casual sex, how about we just enjoy the moment rather than overthinking stuff – everything is temporary anyway!”
Playful, riotous, unapologetic and with lashings of oversharing, the bilingual singer-songwriter’s formidable nature runs through every vein of their punk-inspired alt-pop signature. Born in Cairo before moving to Manchester, Nxdia’s dynamic sound sees them effortlessly fuse English and Arabic. After being introduced to songwriting early in life, they poured their thoughts and feelings into music to process the world around them — all while yearning for a community to fit into. Now Nxdia is on a mission to build a space where anyone looking for a place to belong is welcome; while ensuring the advocacy and activism they were raised with stays front and centre in their vision.
2025 saw Nxdia complete a mammoth year of milestones: from releasing their debut mixtape, to completing their first festival summer (with packed out sets at Latitude, The Great Escape, Lollapalooza Paris and Reading & Leeds) and embarking on their debut (sold-out) UK and European headline tour. Hotly-tipped for 2026, Nxdia features in DIY Magazine’s Class of 2026, Kerrang!’s Sound of ‘26 and Dork’s 2026 HYPE List. In April 2026, they will also hit the road with close friend and singer-songwriter Cat Burns.
