Obliecht' release their single "Coastline”; the EP “True Leaves” will be released on 24.01.25 via Irascible Records!

«Coastline» wonderfully illustrates how Obliecht's intimate music develops immense power as soon as it has space to spread out. Donat and Anuk describe their thought processes and emotional worlds on “Coastline” with the following words: "Reflection needs space and distance. How can this be combined with the need for closeness? We are standing on the coast, on the mountain, on the edge of our own spine. Sediments shift. We observe from a distance in order to recognize details, we think we can already understand what surrounds us in that moment."

While Obliecht was initially a relatively private place where Donat Kaufmann dealt with biographical themes, the project has gradually morphed into a space in which Donat writes songs together with Anuk Schmelcher. Obliecht's new EP «True Leaves» documents how the two are searching for a common language and positions: Sitting down, waiting, listening, asking questions, formulating a sentence, standing up, walking around the room, looking out of the window, watching seedlings, sitting down again, all over again, but with different words.

It is precisely when the sun carves a hole in the fog that Obliecht’s music unfolds at its strongest. «True Leaves», the trio's second EP, is all about movement, encounters and relationships. Obliecht has remained the same on the outside, with their downward-swimming songs, figures that ebb, flow and emerge, the merging of dulcimer and drum patterns, the synths and guitars. Inwardly, however, Obliecht has transformed, the “I” has become a “we”.
