Life On Planets Joins Desert Hearts for New Single "This Is The Place"

Desert Hearts have released their new single “This Is The Place,” a collaboration with Baltimore-bred singer, songwriter, guitarist, and dance music shapeshifter Life On Planets.

Out today, “This Is The Place” channels the communal spirit that has defined Desert Hearts since 2012, pairing the group’s deep, melodic tech house foundation with Life On Planets’ rhythmic vocal delivery and funky guitar work. The result is a punchy, uplifting record that blends dancefloor energy and live instrumentation.

"We wrote the instrumental for this track and knew it had a genuinely positive, feel-good vibe,” says Mikey Lion. “We hit up Life On Planets and developed a concept for lyrics about belonging to a community that encourages freedom of self-expression. He came back to us with this amazing hook and verses that fit the vibe so perfectly. And now we have one of our favorite songs we've ever made."

The single arrives during a pivotal new chapter for Desert Hearts, who recently stepped forward under one shared artist name after more than a decade of building Desert Hearts as a label, festival, and global community.

“We’ve always felt strongest as a crew,” Mikey Lion told Billboard.

That collective spirit runs through “This Is The Place,” extending the project’s renegade, community-first approach into a formalized collaborative artist vision. The release follows Desert Hearts’ debut California EP and recent single “HTL,” continuing a run of music that reflects the trio’s evolution from movement-builders into a unified creative force.

“This Is The Place” also marks Life On Planets’ entrance into the Desert Hearts universe. Known for weaving house, R&B, hip hop, soul, guitar, and live vocals into club-focused records and performances, Life On Planets brings a distinctly human energy to the track, adding songcraft and live instrumentation to Desert Hearts’ rolling, dancefloor-driven sound.

Following releases on No Art, Defected, Soul Clap Records, Classic, and Tuskegee, Life On Planets has built a lane as a hybrid live/DJ performer, shaped by Baltimore warehouse culture and New York’s underground scenes through Wolf Lamb and Soul Clap.

“This Is The Place” is out now via Desert Hearts.
