Quarry New Single “1975”: The World Has Changed. Or Has It? [OUT NOV 20] Exclusive Premiere Available

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Quarry announces the release of his new single “1975,” out Friday 20 November 2026.

Inspired by the Netflix documentary Breakdown: 1975, the song revisits a year when political tensions, social unrest and artistic creativity seemed to collide. But rather than dwelling on the past, Quarry turns his attention to 2026, questioning how much the world has really changed and what kind of future lies ahead.

“1975 / alright / 1975 on fire / 2026 now / How did years go by” sets up the song's central tension: a conversation between two points in time, separated by five decades but connected by a similar feeling of uncertainty.

Rather than romanticising the past, “1975” questions both eras. “What has changed / Don't you really know / Life is worth / Less than a trashy show” turns the song into a critique of a culture increasingly dominated by distraction, spectacle and the erosion of meaning.

At the same time, the song isn't simply pessimistic. Its recurring line — “We sing the songs for the future / We face the lack of illusion” — becomes something of a manifesto. If the illusion has disappeared, music can still be a way of confronting reality rather than escaping it.

The final refrain, “Run inside the circle of fire”, intensifies that feeling of being trapped in a cycle of history, while the closing words — “Sing the songs for the future / Till the silence can't consume us” — offer the song's most defiant response.

Musically and visually, “1975” embraces the tension between past and present. The accompanying video uses archival-style imagery, television footage, photographs and distressed black-and-ivory textures, creating the sensation of moving through a fragmented historical broadcast. The result is not a conventional nostalgia piece, but a cinematic reflection on time, cultural memory, disillusionment and the need to keep creating in the face of uncertainty.

Quarry explains:

“I was inspired by Breakdown: 1975 documentary and the way it looks at a period when society was going through huge changes and people were trying to make sense of what was happening around them. Watching it in 2026, I kept thinking about how many of those questions still feel relevant. ‘1975’ came from that contrast — looking backwards while trying to understand where we are now. It isn't really a song about the past; it's about the present, and about trying to hold on to the idea that we can still sing something for the future.”

Quarry is the solo project of Italian-born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Vittorio Tolomeo. His musical journey began with drums and guitar, leading him into Italy's independent music scene, where he played in several bands, released two EPs on indie labels and wrote the theme music for a popular radio show.

Based between Milan and London, Quarry has performed across Europe, both as a solo artist and with various bands. His solo career includes three acclaimed albums, Prize Day, Super Arcade and “Positioning The Sun” while his single “Micro Plastic People” attracted attention for tackling the environmental issue of microplastic pollution.

With his band Prizeday, he has appeared at festivals including The Great Escape, supported Arthur Brown on a run of live dates and premiered a short film at the Cannes Film Festival. Quarry's music has also found its way into film, television and advertising, with placements in Animal Kingdom, Top Gear, the Italian film La mia ombra è tua and a Vans advertising campaign. His work has earned praise from music publications including Rolling Stone France, which described his music as “highly contagious.”

His new single “1975” marks the beginning of another chapter, offering a first glimpse of his forthcoming album, due for release in 2027.
