Racines, New Single «NARI feat. BORDA» + "NARI REMIX" Out Now As Mini-EP

Racines, the electronic duo formed by Rokeya and Anissa, today releases “Nari”, a new single produced together with Borda, accompanied by a remix that expands its sonic trajectory and completes the release as a mini-EP. The project arrives two weeks after the debut album “Arilos Mennar”, released on Locomotiv Records, and confirms the duo's commitment to working within a constantly evolving musical ecosystem, between electronic layering and ancestral references.

Racines moves through a terrain of hybridisation, where plural identities and imaginaries bring tradition and contemporaneity into dialogue, archaic sounds and electronic aesthetics.

Nari is an emotional short-circuit made of desire and torment, where passion and darkness overlap until they lose their own outlines. The hands of the mysterious producer Borda build a dense and powerful beat, igniting like a continuous fire and finding its fuel in the writing and vocal intensity of Racines: the words burn, the melody gradually consumes itself, until it becomes ash.

The original track brings back the distinctive traits of Racines’s sound, while the remix introduces a more rhythmic, club-oriented tension — between footwork and dancehall — pushing the track towards a more physical and percussive territory.

On the remix, Borda himself declared: “The Nari remix whispers to the soul in a language made of rhythm and feelings, reminding us that, even when we wander far, our roots still sing beneath us.”

Arilos Mennar is an album that moves between pulsating rhythms and different languages, in a soundscape that belongs to no precise place — and inhabits all of them. Contemporary electronics, ancestral traditions, global imaginaries: a journey that roots itself in the past and burns towards the future.

The lyrics reflect this plurality without hierarchies: Arabic, Italian, Spanish, French, Greek and Ladino merge into a single voice. A research into the sound of words before their meaning — stories, resilience and desire that emerge from the very matter of language.

The sonic dimension of the album is built with care and precision. The percussion of Taha Ennouri and Ali Belazi amplify the ritual; the winds of Carmelo Colajanni — duduk, zampogna, bansuri, arghul, overtone flute — open evocative spaces; the oud of Simone Santarelli adds timbral depth. On the track "Nari", the production of the mysterious Borda delivers a hypnotic explosiveness that fully embodies the universe of the record.

The feminine runs through the entire work as both gaze and poetics — a force that generates connections and new imaginaries. A vision also reflected in the visuals: the artwork is by Marie Cécile, the visual production by Andreola Mejia.:

ABOUT RACINES

Racines (Roots) is a female duo born in 2022 from the encounter between Rokeya and Anissa.

Rokeya, London-based and of Indo-Italian-Welsh origins, is a producer, performer, selector and curator. She has produced site-specific works for organisations such as Ableton and L-Acoustics, and has released music with various labels, including Timpan Records, Lump, Kosa, La Tempesta, Mamboz, Beached Records, Kirmana Records and Volubilian Records.

Anissa, of Italian-Algerian origins, is a powerful voice of tradition, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She collaborates with artists such as Moni Ovadia and Max Gazzè and works across music and theatre, composing original music and soundtracks.

Two apparently distant worlds that, when they meet, give rise to a dialogue between traditional heritage and contemporary electronics.

Daughters of multiple cultures, the two artists weave their musical souls together to create the sound of Racines: ancestral, powerful, earthy and cross-pollinated, inspired by the lands facing South.

ABOUT BORDA

Borda is a presence that moves through the night like a distant signal, picked up from some remote corner of the universe. The space funk ranger, explorer of frequencies and vibrations, translates oneiric visions into pulsating beats, suspended between club culture and unknown dimensions. His sets are gravity-free journeys: hypnotic rhythms, deep bass lines and unpredictable trajectories. Better wear comfortable shoes — once you enter his flow, stopping to dance will not be an option.

ABOUT MARIE CÉCILE

Marie Cécile was born in the Marche region of Italy, where she lives and works. She collaborates with the magazine Čapek and the Ratatà festival. As an illustrator, she continues her research into the feminine subject, exploring the aspects that connect women to the earth and nature.

She participates in group exhibitions and collective projects.
