Second Youth return with Only Child, their most intense and personal EP to date

After years of silence, Second Youth return with Only Child, a five-track EP that stands as the band’s most mature, raw and personal work so far.

Born between Italy and the UK from two veterans of the hardcore/punk scene, Second Youth have always embraced a straightforward approach: fast songs, strong melodies and pure energy. Yet with Only Child they go further. This is not just a continuation of where they left off - it’s a new chapter. The record speaks of loneliness, family trauma, failure and self-identity, without easy excuses or redemption. Each track carries the same anger as always, now filtered through a darker, more intimate tension that makes their sound even more powerful.

Produced by Danusk, recorded at Reef Studios and released via Anchors Aweigh Records, Only Child represents a comeback without nostalgia: it doesn’t aim to replicate the past, but to channel scars, clarity and an urgency that never faded.

The lead single “Family Burden” embodies this vision. A visceral song tackling the weight of inner struggles and the shadows that follow us daily. Its accompanying video - directed by Martina Pastori with cinematography by Edoardo Bolli - builds a strong and unsettling imagery: an isolated young man in the countryside, surrounded only by his animals, repeating cryptic gestures that grow in intensity and ambiguity. The result is a disturbing crescendo, a visual metaphor for fragility and pain, inviting the viewer to confront their own ghosts.
