Skip&Die releases new single Maloya Magic
This is what singer Cata.Pirata, says about the new single:
"Maloya music, native to Réunion Island, is oftentimes dedicated to ancestral worship rituals as well as being a musical form of socio-political dialogue against slavery, and a beautiful example of cultural mixing as it was originally created by Malagasy and African slaves on the island, but quickly appropriated and cherished by the entire island's population, as a symbol of unification.
[endif]Our trip to Réunion Island (to record with Lindigo* as well as to perform at Kaloobang Festival) was particularly special and very close to heart, as it is also the origin of my family's real-life creole pirate heritage, and one of the reasons for my stage name "Cata.Pirata". Visiting the cemetery where my ancestors and other pirates where buried was a magical experience. Being able to spend time with our new musical family "Lindigo" was just as powerful; we were invited into their home to jam with their family and friends, we gathered banana leaves to share our meals on, while meanwhile we learnt how to make our very own Kayamb percussion instruments. Réunion Island, our island, our heartbeat; can you feel what we feel? Good vibrations.".
