Sohnarr releases new single ‘RADAR' out now

Following the haunting ‘Melomania’ and the intense instrumental ‘The Mermaids of Bergsjøn', the new single ‘Radar’ shows yet again another layer to ‘Coral Dusk’.

The song was one of the first songs Patricia wrote during her Nordic travels. In contrast to the rest of the album, her daily life and identity she wanted to leave behind are still sensible and present. A more direct and ego bound aspect runs throughout the song. By starting the actual recordings with ‘Radar’, Patricia was also able to leave that part of herself behind, allowing herself to go deeper, creating space for the intuitive.

Musically ‘Radar’ drives on the captivating vocal lines and uplifting rhythm. ‘Radar’ is about finding balance in a relationship when both people look to define personal space and liberty. We all follow our own instincts but are also undeniably influenced by the other person’s definition and behavior. Guarding over personal space is liberating and empowering but could descend into loneliness when space becomes emptiness. ‘Radar’ is about that search for balance and wondering if such a thing will ever exist.

This search is also visible in the accompanying music video. Choosing mannequins as daily companions seems to be the perfect solution to transcend solitude ánd keep personal space, ... or is it not?

Patricia Vanneste is proud to present her solo project Sohnarr and its debut album release ‘Coral Dusk’ which will be out on 15 May 2020 through [PIAS] Recordings.

Two years ago Patricia Vanneste decided to leave Balthazar, the band she had started together with Jinte Bernardt and Maarten Devoldere 15 years ago. She made that decision in order to create space for another calling that needed answering. By leaving Balthazar, the search to turn this desire into something real had started. After trying out a few locations and different ways to evoke through music what was inside of her, intangible and invisible, she came to realise that the concept of nature would take on an important or even crucial role. This was about more than quiet and silence, space and focus. She had to be away from anything with a human trait. With no distraction affecting her, going away seemed to be the only way to strip away her own self conscience in order to find the essence from which music would flourish. It was during this awareness, Patricia realised that she herself as an individual, would almost have to be disregarded too so she could make visible what was still invisible. She had to step away from herself to be able to express where words failed before and to make the invisible, visible. A name is not some one’s essence but a definition of yourself on constant repeat and a reminder of who you appear to be.

So she left Patricia behind and let Sohnarr in.
