Solak shares new single 'Different Timing' from upcoming album

Capitane Records is thrilled to announce the release of Solak's second single, "Different Timing" today. This is the second single from his highly anticipated second album, set to be released on November 15. "Different Timing" is a song about finding each other's frequency, as well as your own, within a relationship. It addresses the importance of staying true to your own needs and desires while remaining connected and open to discussion.

This song was written at a time when Lukas Somers, the man behind SOLAK, was deciding to leave his shared house with friends to move in with his girlfriend, along with the doubts that came with that decision. Spoiler: In the end, it turned out to be a good thing! This song is indeed dedicated to the birth of his first son, born in last August!

"I arrived at Ocean Sound Recordings with just a sketch, as I wanted to push myself to finish writing a song there and record it in 2 or 3 takes the next day, so there would be no room for overthinking or reconsideration. And that’s exactly what happened! I remember it was after dinner, during sunset, that I found the right words and worked on the structure. It perfectly matched the vibe. I wanted it to sound like a Bill Withers song, as if he were singing it. Nothing too fancy, but direct and with clear emotion. Early in the morning, I recorded the acoustic guide track, we recorded the bass, drums, and upright piano live, and we finished the same day with overdubs of Hammond and guitars, etc. Back in Belgium, we added the beautiful backing vocals of Fien and Hanne. »

Lukas Somers embarks on the daunting task of expressing the ineffable with SOLAK's sophomore album, Atlas. Wrestling with the challenge of conveying emotions that transcend language, Somers endeavors to create music that strikes a chord of recognition in all who listen. Departing from his collaborative past, he delves into deeply personal experiences, seeking to distill them into melodies that resonate universally. This journey follows his debut, Green, which initially surprised Somers himself, leading him to explore the boundaries of his artistic expression further.

Venturing to Norway's Ocean Sound Recording Studios, Somers, alongside technician Steven van Gelder, meticulously refines his sonic vision. Embracing both darkness and light, the album's tracks showcase a spectrum of emotions, with the band's cohesive synergy elevating the musical narrative. Yet, Somers resists over-explanation, preferring listeners to interpret the music through their own experiences. Anchored in authenticity, SOLAK's music aims not for commercial acclaim but to offer solace and introspection, echoing the honest ethos of artists like Feist and Elliott Smith.

Different Timing is out now on Capitane Records. The album Atlas will be released on November 15th. SOLAK will be performing in concert at Botanique on November 24th.
