Speakman Sound Release New Film Collaboration With Deadbeat Films

Ahead of their upcoming second EP release, hotly tipped young production duo Speakman Sound today unveil the accompanying 5-minute music video. The ‘LIMBIC’ EP featuring Sharky, NAALA and DEACON will be released this Friday 30th August.

A collaboration with Deadbeat Films, the 5-minute cinematic video breaks down the conventional music video format. The film explores the connection between the Limbic System (the part of the brain involved in our behavioural and emotional responses) along with Western culture’s deep-rooted love for festivals and hedonism. The ‘LIMBIC’ video is set to a fragmented soundtrack of each of the four tracks from Speakman Sound’s forthcoming EP.

Speaking on the film, director Boris Thompson-Rylance of Deadbeat Films says: “The key was in the juxtaposition of imagery, text and sound. Like livewires and electric currents in the brain, the film leaps and skips through time in an elliptical, nonlinear rhythm.

The film drifts from colour to black and white, vertical phone footage and super 8 cameras, as if swimming through a long passage of shapeshifting memories. The deliberate placement of large angry crowds at an anti-Trump protest in New York, paired next to an ecstatic festival crowd in an East London rave creates conflicting emotion, making links to imagery which is often dissociated from each other.

Tracks already unveiled from the EP include ‘Via Lactea’ ft. NAALA’ which has been A-Listed by Rinse FM and supported by Huw Stephens at Radio 1. ‘Sleep’ ft. DEACON followed earlier in August, with the track premiered by Complex. The full EP is completed by two fresh tracks which feature the vocal talents of regular collaborator Sharky, who has just released her own EP, ‘Fruit’, also produced by Speakman Sound and released on their label.
