The Shadow Machine releases debut EP 'Cities Of Light'

On Friday, February 11th, The Shadow Machine releases debut EP 'Cities Of Light'. Hope is the common thread on the EP. All the songs have some heavier themes (loss, acceptance, losing your way, ...). The central theme, however, hope, is based on the idea that change and acceptance are always possible in the end. The debut EP was recorded by Bert Vliegen (Teen Creeps, Sophia, Whispering Sons) and mastered by Laurens Grossen (Whispering Sons, Danny Blue and The Old Socks, Rumours).

The Shadow Machine is the project of singer-songwriter Jo Geboers. He warmly invites you here, where he shows you the importance of embracing your own shadow. The moody music made by the band is like a visit into the brain of Jo. He tells stories of trying to find yourself, the need to overthink things and other internal struggles. His dark and intimate songs reveal a glimpse of Geboers’ mysterious mind as well as a hint to the sound of The Shadow Machine, which resonates as much melancholy and darkness as it reflects light. Geboers’ compelling craftsmanship and baritone voice may be reminiscent of those of icons such as Nick Cave or Matt Berninger (The National).

“The feeling that comes back through the making of the EP is the search for a home, the search for direction, not giving up and finding energy again in making music. It really was a healing experience for me. Another recognizable feeling that comes over me when I listen to the EP myself: gratitude, because of the cooperation with the fantastic group of musicians and producer, as well as gratitude that I found the courage and energy to make music again after a difficult period." - Jo Geboers

The Shadow Machine's previous releases; 'Blind', 'Thirst' and 'Disengaged received a lot of attention. Apart from a video premiere via magazine Knack Focus, The Shadow Machine was also on the front cover of the Spotify curated playlist "Indie Goesting". Also on radio stations like Studio Brussel, KINK, INDIE XL and UrgentFM one could already discover The Shadow Machine. The act was also dubbed 'Fresh Fish' by WILLY. daMusic already made the comparison with Marble Sounds' hit 'Leave a Light On' and according to Dansende Beren "the talent is musically splashing". The Shadow Machine is also selected for Humo's Rock Rally 2022. Together with Dennis Mahieu (Cloudy-Oh), Wannes Nimmegeers (Quasiland) and Guillaume Trotta, Jo translates the story of The Shadow Machine into an authentic, warm, yet dark sound.
