The Shadow Machine releases new single 'Disengaged'
On Friday November 26th The Shadow Machine releases their new single called 'Disengaged'. It is the third single of the debt EP which will be released on February 11th, 2022. It's a song about overcoming differences with a loved one. About not abandoning each other and the love you two share in difficult moments. Sometimes loving each other is just not enough. Sometimes we need to make an effort in accepting each others differences and learn how to grow together.
The Shadow Machine is the new home of singer-songwriter Jo Geboers. He warmly invites you here, where he shows you the importance of embracing your own shadow. The moody music made by the band is like a visit into the brain of Jo. He tells stories of trying to find yourself, the need to overthink things and other internal struggles. His dark and intimate songs reveal a glimpse of Geboers’ mysterious mind as well as a hint to the sound of The Shadow Machine, which resonates as much melancholy and darkness as it reflects light.
“Sometimes, relational crises can lead to hopeful moments. This is what I thought while writing the lyrics for this song. The melody and vibe of the song were already present, but when searching for meaningful lyrics, I remembered a passage in a Alain De Botton book in which he states that love is a verb. I totally agree with him: we shouldn’t look away when things get hard in our relationship. We can use this tension and worries to overcome the difficulties in order to grow closer to each other.” - Jo Geboers
The Shadow Machine's first two singles 'Blind' and 'Thirst' received a lot of attention, including airplay on the legendary radio station Studio Brussel and features in several editorial playlists. Belgian national newspaper De Morgen added 'Blind' to their 'Spot On' playlist and it was featured in the 'Signalement' playlist of one of Belgium's leading cultural magazines 'Knack Focus'. On stage, Jo Geboers will be joined by Dennis Mahieu (ex-Rhinos Are People Too) and Wannes Nimmegeers (Quasiland). They guide Jo into translating the story of The Shadow Machine into an authentic, warm, yet dark sound. The debut EP, which will be released on February 11th was produced by Bert Vliegen (Teen Creeps, Sophia, Whispering Sons) and mastered by Laurens Grossen (Whispering Sons, Danny Blue and The Old Socks, Rumours).
