Yee Loi release their electric fourth single ‘Miraclist’
The new single by teenage punk firebrands Yee Loi warns of the danger of modern-day cult leaders in the form of online influencers. ‘Miraclist’ is the latest single from debut album Flicks, licks, party tricks, which is available for pre-order now on Modern Sky.
Siblings Rose, Matilda and Don Don are just coming to the end of a 14-date nationwide tour supporting 80s icons Transvision Vamp, after being handpicked by singer Wendy James.
‘Miraclist’ is a classic alt-rock single and has its roots in waves of punk from The Ramones and Buzzcocks to the likes of Hole and L7.
Lead singer and drummer Matilda said: “We wrote ‘Miraclist’ while out in Utah - where the mountain scenery meets the desert. It’s a landscape with this dark, almost cultish undertone. The concept for the lyrics just hit me out of nowhere in the mountains.
“The song digs into the dangers of false prophets and modern demagogues preaching fake promises to vulnerable people. It started with an obsession over old-school religious fanatics like David Koresh but today those same figures are internet influencers creating internet frenzies. The single’s about getting people to think for themselves instead of drinking the Kool-Aid.”
‘Miraclist’ follows their latest releases ‘Why Ask Why’, ‘Down In The Bunker’ and ‘Social Suicide’ - tracks which made songs of the week lists in the likes of Kerrang!, MTV UK and Northern Exposure.
“Never ones to do anything quietly” (Rock DNA), previous tracks have tackled subjects from dead uncles in basements to goth sisters to internet frenzies. ‘Miraclist’ revives an archaic 17th-century English term meaning ‘one who claims to perform or holds faith in miracles’, with the single encouraging independent thought in an age of thoughtless hysteria.
Guitarist Rose said: “Musically, it’s raw swamp-punk rock and roll. We were listening to a lot of classic Thin Lizzy and The Gun Club’s Miami album - capturing that dark, voodoo-inspired desert vibe. People have said they pick up on early ‘90s Riot grrrl energy like L7 or Hole in our sound too.”
The track is the bridge to the band’s forthcoming album Flicks, licks, party tricks, arriving 15 January 2027 via Modern Sky UK. Recorded entirely without auto-tune or backing tracks, the album is a reflection of the band’s DIY ethos. Capturing the energy and chaos of their live performances, Flicks, licks, party tricks is the debut project of one of the most exciting breakout British punk acts out there. As EON Music put it: “It is blindingly clear they are the real deal.”
