Newport Rebels is the original studio recording by the jazz super-group The Jazz Artist Guild, assembled by Charles Mingus and Max Roach, featuring Booker Little, Eric Dolphy, Abbey Lincoln and a host of pioneering musicians after their 1960 protest concert against the annual Newport Jazz Festival.

We Insist! Max Roach’s groundbreaking civil rights masterpiece, and one of the first albums to be remastered and reissued by the newly relaunched Candid in 2021, is presented here in the original MONO in celebration of Roach’s centennial year. This important work was added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry in 2022.
