Montreal’s Joe Grass today reveals the cinematic live performance video for “Falcon’s Heart”, the title track to his new solo album which is out now via Simone Records. The visually stunning clip was shot by Frédérique Bérubé and features Joe and Robbie Kuster performing on the banks of a river in Frelighsburg, Eastern Townships.. Grass will play Montreal International Jazz Festival on July 4th.

Speaking on the making of the video Bérubé says, “I wanted to film a live performance that Joe could merge with the audio recording of the original version. In the video, Joe and Robbie interrupt themselves in the middle of the song. They drop their instruments as if they were under the influence of the present moment, and dive into the unknown. This experience will transform them and reveal unsuspected mysteries. For the ending, Joe emerges from the water, changed (and frozen) to sing the final verse.”

Grass has been writing and recording his own music for almost 20 years, but since moving from Moncton, NB to Montreal he’s also become one of this city’s most sought-after musical partners. His credits include work with Lhasa, the Barr Brothers and his avant-pop band Klaus; he co-produced Elisapie’s Polaris- and Juno-nominated LP, The Ballad of the Runaway Girl, and helped write and arrange Patrick Watson’s Love Songs for Robots and Wave.

Falcon’s Heart sees the acclaimed singer-songwriter lifting fresh sounds out of old forms—deconstructing timeless country music and making it kaleidoscopic. The record bursts with colour and texture, but they were born in the sparest way: by a man with three chords and his father’s guitar, writing in the tradition of John Prine.

Falcon’s Heartis out now on Simone Records.
