A unique excellent anniversary edition of Zermatt Unplugged 2017!

door Peter Minnebo

The anniversary edition of Zermatt Unplugged ended on Sunday April 9 with a record number of 30000 enthusiastic guests.

It’s a unique event in Europe, a combination of the impressive nature, music, tasting and universal friendship! Wherever you go in Zermatt, you discover music events on the main venue, but also in hotels, pubs, mountain-huts. Visitors can sit on luxuary seats, but also on ice cubes(Gandegghütte), while watching the musicians. Some artist took a short break in the mountains, sometimes you meet them on a terrace in a mountainhut, just relaxing. So we spotted Ida Mae in the Sunnega.

But moments of enchantment and beauty were also to be discovered one stages near the Marquee stage. In the Alex, where KT Tunstall showed her musical genius with endless loop-pedal effects and percussion on a suitcase, real unplugged stuff. On the stage in the Taste Village, new talents got a chance, but also known faces as Debrah Scarlett (promo artist for the festival) and Marius Bär from the region Appenzell, who performed already on Zermatt Unplugged Kaufleuten 2016. Ida Mae played very ‘pur’ blues, folk & country with a very oldfashioned guitar, cool!

The Marquee stage welcomed every evening international artists like Nelly Furtado, Michael Bolton, Paolo Nutini and Jess Glynne. They all brought their greatest songs with so much pleasure. Nelly Furtado was always talking and laughing with her own stories between the songs, and the public enjoyed it! The Marquee tent is fit up very cosy , seats with sheep’s wool and a striking luster. The luster was so impressive, that Simple Minds took one for their stage on their acoustic tour.

There was a Swiss party with James Gruntz & Guests at the Alex. Afterwards, the festival community danced until dawn to the music of the newly crowned Echo prizewinner Alle Farben.

The Taste Village, designed in collaboration with Katha Weber and presented by Scheizer Fleish was daily everyone’s favourite place starting at noon. At the Taste Village you could spent hours, while eating delicious food, warming at the designed camp-fires, and just socializing with Zermatt Unplugged friends & family.

So.....when you want to escape from the crowdy summerfestivals, come to Zermatt and just relax.

The eleventh edition of Zermatt Unplugged will take place from April 10 to 14, 2018.
