The delicate intimacy of alt-folk phenomenon, FINK’s latest single, So We Find Ourselves, sets listeners on a path into the reunited band’s 10-track, summertime album riven with laid-back melody and close-cut, raw emotion. After the celebrated release of first single, What Would You Call Yourself in March, the piano-centred meditation on love, birth and belief in life’s natural, optimistic path is the second single from the three-piece’s eighth album, Beauty In Your Wake, released on Fri 5 July 2024 on the R’COUP’D label.

Leaving no ambiguity in the question as to how Greenall and FINK bandmates, Tim Thornton (drums/guitar) and Guy Whittaker (bass), carved global pathways for their music to find such success during their noughties emergence, So We Find Ourselves sense of respectful restraint affects no denial of its musical ambition. Piano, voice, soulful backing vocals and tapped-guitar--percussion is all it took for Greenall to build a totem to fatherhood, self-belief and optimism, redolent of the band’s purposely unadorned recording sessions in remote Cornwall.

Looking beyond the album’s release to their live return, FINK also announced three initial dates at UK venues, starting in London on Fri 25 Oct 2024, when they appear at EartH Theatre. With the emotional energy dialled-up on what fans have heard of Beauty In Your Wake to date, yet a new mantra of ‘less is more’ pervading the band’s approach, each of the total of 36 UK and European Tour Dates promise an unsurpassed level of heart-to-heart intimacy

Now settled in Berlin after living in London for over 20-years, the Cornwall-born and Bristol-raised Greenall’s motivations to return to songwriting after a pause, partly impacted by the pandemic, coincided with the opening of the remote New Zennor Sounds Studio by Grammy Award-winning producer, Sam Okell in the picturesque Cornish village. With time, space, old friends and sea swimming on their doorstep, FINK could craft tracks as essentially human as So We Find Ourselves.

Greenall reflects on the song by saying:This song is so personal. I am the first to pour hate on other writers when they have kids and end up writing the ‘baby song’ record afterwards but this is my New Dad song and that’s that! When mine grows up I hope she hears this and knows what it’s like to fall in love together.

“Aside from parenthood, it’s about nothing ever being the wrong thing, it’s about optimism, it’s about rags to riches to riches to rags. In the end, we get it right either way. When we recorded it, I sat live at an open piano and just belted my heart out into the piano itself to get that lovely reverb from the piano’s body. It had to be a live take and I think that’s why there is so much charge in this one.”

Beauty In Your Wake arrives on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats including Dolby Atmos on the newly-independent R’COUP’D imprint that Greenall originally founded with Ninja Tune for the release of the 2015 album, Horizontalism. Having first signed with Ninja Tune’s N-Tone label for the 1997 release of his Fink Funk debut, Greenall’s determined divergence from techno to guitar-based songwriting, and partnership with Thornton and Whittaker, first bore fruit with the release of the commercially and critically-successful Biscuits For Breakfast album in 2006.

Global tours connected to a further seven albums have carried the band to a committed, international fan base alongside the numerous inclusions of FINK songs on TV and film soundtracks such as Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead and the latest series of True Detective. In 2023, the soundtrack to Ava du Vernay’s biopic of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Isabel Wilkerson, Origin, featured a purpose-written Greenall-penned song.

FINK’s extensive autumn touring plans, crossing through much of Europe and promising highlights from that extensive back-catalogue, reconvenes the band on stage for the first time in seven years. All of the currently confirmed FINK UK Tour dates are as follows:

  • Fri 25 Oct - London, EartH Theatre
  • Sun 27 Oct – Bristol, Thekla
  • Mon 28 Oct – Manchester, Band on the Wall
