In early 2023, after a long hiatus due to personal and global events, Adrian Jones began writing again for a new Nine Stones Close album with Brendan Eyre. Initially, there were no preconceived ideas about themes or styles—just the joy of making music together again and creating something new.
By the summer of 2023, the band was riding a wave of productivity and inspiration, leading to a cathartic outpouring of music and lyrics. Working primarily remotely in their studios scattered across Switzerland, England, Ireland, and the Netherlands, and spending countless hours on video calls and interactive sessions over the internet, the music came together quickly. The creative brakes were off, and by the end of the year, the band had completed the writing and recording process with a new lineup that included a new drummer and bass player. They began final mixing for two new albums.
The first of those albums, "Diurnal", will be released on July 11, 2024, on CD and all digital platforms.
."Diurnal" reflects on the arc of a day and some of the internal dilemmas we all face from time to time. The album takes you from the uplifting dawn of a new day full of hope and beauty, through the highs and lows of the day's events and thoughts, and finally to moments of reflection as the sun sets. Reflective tracks such as the beautiful lead single 'Ghosted' sit alongside the power of 'Angel Of Flies' and the epic 'Frustration / Sedation', taking the listener through every emotion and facet of Nine Stones Close's music.
The second album, "Adventures In Anhedonia", is set for release later in 2024.
"Adventures In Anhedonia" is a deeply personal album, lyrically reflecting on the mental state and well-being of us all, based on Adrian Jones's personal experiences and recent traumas. Adrian says, "It really reflects what’s been happening to me over the past years, the effect it’s had on me, and how I have tried to deal with some of it." From the soaring opening track 'Beach Walker' to the epic finale 'Plastic Animals', the album takes you on a journey through the Nine Stones Close musical world and into Adrian Jones's psyche.
Adrian says of the new music, "After a long hiatus (due to personal reasons), we entered a highly inspired, creative, and productive period of writing and recording, which led to the completion of two new albums. We are very much looking forward to sharing these albums with the fans!"
