Belgian rapper Shay declares new single DA.

“J’suis d’retour c’est officiel!” (“It’s official, I’m back!”), declares Belgian rapper and self proclaimed ‘jolie garcie’ (pretty bitch), SHAY, in her incredible high-octane new single DA.

Since the release of her last album Antidote in 2019, save for a few high-profile appearances (on the cover of Vogue Japan in May 2020 and as a muse for Burberry), the Brussels-based rapper has kept out of the musical limelight.

Now at the head of her own Jolie Garce Records label, Shay, (real name Vanessa Lesnicki) is finally filling the void left by her extended absence. On its announcement DA created huge waves, landing alongside a brand new official website and stirring fans into a frenzy of anticipation - with Shay even trending on Twitter.

Produced by Josh and Nostra (PLK, Leto, Tiakola, Koba, Ninho, Alonzo...), DA arrives alongside a phenomenal video, directed by long term collaborator Guillaume Doubet, who also directed visuals for Shay’s previous album. It’s a slick and futuristic offering –cherished by the rapper– set against a powerfully minimalistic instrumental, evoking a similar style to her Jolie video, in which she gave a defiant and uninhibited solo dance performance

Recorded last summer, DA marks an assertive return to the big league as Shay once again holds her audience hypnotised. It references the French acronym for artistic direction (‘D.A.’), signaling high-impact innovative changes from the hugely successful artist. Since her 2016 debut album, Shay is the only woman in the game to reach gold record heights after winning over fans with her inimitable gritty, graphic and bold form of rap. In fact, Shay’s last two albums garnered over 300 million streams each. With DA, Shay proves she can live up to her self adorned nickname in the rap world: the bearer of light.
