Falcon Jane 'Legacy' Out Today | Shares Video "Oh My God"
Falcon Jane today releases the alt country LP Legacy. Produced by José Contreras (By Divine Right), Legacy is available now via Darling Records. Lead singer and songwriter Sara May today shares a new video for album highlight “Oh My God”, which follows previous singles “How Dare You” and “Man of Action”. An upbeat pop song about feeling crushed, the video sees May embracing the duality of dancing away the heartbreak.

“I’ve been through my fair share of heartache and pain in my life,” explains May, “but one of the most awful experiences to date was losing my cat, Seabass. I was honestly shocked by how deep it cut. I think that’s where the “Oh my god” and “Holy shit” sentiments in the song come from: the astonishment that losing a cat could hurt so damn much.”
Speaking on the making of the video May says, “I really wanted to make a glamorous cowgirl video. Perhaps it’s the heartbreak that inspired the song shining through, or my general awkwardness on camera, but the footage didn’t feel fully celebratory. Even though I’m smiling and dancing, there’s something quite eerie and dark existing in the video that no amount of editing could erase. So I leaned into it and explored the darker side of the song and the footage. Uncovering the little moments of loneliness and sadness behind the sparkly dress and platform boots.”
Across the LP May explores many of the great characters of country music: the drinker, the vagabond, the neglecting father and the broken hearted. She deftly presents the characters, flaws and all, with a clarity and empathy that feels almost transgressive. But these are May’s stories too: her rural childhood, her move to the big city of Toronto, her current home in a working class small town, and her life on the road as a musician.
Legacy sees May alongside her partner and bandmate Andrew McArthur transformed both lyrically and musically. Together with producer José Contreras (By Divine Right), Falcon Jane refined their sound—pushing toward folk and country like contemporaries Waxahatchee and Angel Olsen. May’s voice, the one constant from 2015’s Alive n Well EP, through the dream pop of her 2018 debut album Feelin’ Freaky, to the sprawling indie rock of 2020’s Faith, is more powerful here, sitting atop the warm, Nashville-leaning production.
Legacy is Falcon Jane’s return, recollection, reinvention and culmination. It’s a perfect moment looking both forward and backward towards the same North Star.
