Glasvegas release 'Degüello' to confirm new 2027 album and UK & Ireland Tour

Glasvegas return with the euphoric, distorted expanse of Degüello, the first deeply reflective single drawn from their first album in six years. Drawing on their own winding story of personal and artistic growth since their explosive emergence almost two decades ago, the single’s spine-tingling rush of emotion introduces Airy Fairy, the iconic Scottish band’s fifth album set for release on Fri 2 April 2027 with Modern Sky UK.

New music arrives after the band played a sold out Barrowland Ballroom, Glasgow in a statement homecoming in April, before immediately announcing their return to open their Airy Fairy 2027 UK Tour at the city’s O2 Academy on Fri 1 May 2027.

Lining up 11 dates, including a return to London to play The Dome (Fri 14 May 2027) and Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick to close the tour on Sun 12 September 2027, tickets for all shows are on sale from Fri 30 October 2026 at 10am via links at www.glasvegas.net

Airy Fairy was recorded with fierce intensity in a matter of weeks, Glasvegas songwriter and singer, James Allan, alongside founding members, Rab Allan (guitars) and Paul Donoghue (bass), reacted with fresh energy to the frustrations of making its predecessor, 2021’s Godspeed. Describing a more fleet of foot, almost punk approach to its recording, Degüello (Spanish for ‘cutthroat’) reflects the band’s sense of urgency, while James’ lyrics remain as erudite, introspective and emphatic as ever. It finds the frontman doing battle with past hang ups, losses and mistakes, whilst living in all new terrain as a husband and father.

The album’s opening track, Degüello’s expansive wash of distorted guitars, sense of cascading drama and poised moments of deep space are all laced together with his unmistakable voice in full-hearted flow. Over three and a half intense minutes, it represents a band breaking new, confident ground on instinct, while holding onto an unflinching commitment to music as an art of raw, honest and vulnerable expression.

“The image I have in my head of this song is a guy on a horse with balloon animals tied to the back of it, setting off on a quest,” James explains. “But really, it’s just me. I got the phrase ‘Degüello’ from an old film on TV, and I didn’t immediately connect it to myself, but songwriting can be like that, you start off clueless and you find your way to something. There might have been times when I was depressed, same as angry or nervous, but I wouldn’t have known it at the time. Only when I’ve looked back at a song ten years later and recognised it. It’s almost like leaving a fingerprint.”

Getting to work in Airdrie, Scotland in late 2025, commuting barely 20 minutes by road from the band’s homes in Glasgow, Airy Fairy was produced by James Allan himself with the title of the album occurring to him as he faced down old annoyances, converting fury to acceptance. Seldom used as a term of endearment to describe anyone with their head in the clouds, Allan says: “I hated it when people called me ‘airy fairy’, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve recognised it in myself. I’ve learned to accept it.”

Airy Fairy is to be released on multiple formats, including standard and fan-edition vinyl variants, CD and digital, with the track listing confirmed by the band as follows:

  1. Degüello
  2. Airy Fairy
  3. Holiday & Travel Brochure
  4. My Hate Part
  5. Virtually Real
  6. TOOBIN'
  7. Null
  8. Even Your Darkness Has A Light Of Its Own
  9. Lost In L.A.
  10. Geographic

Renowned for powerful live performances, Glasvegas remain selective in when and where they appear, primarily picking out major festival dates since the end of their European 15th Anniversary Tour in 2023. As motivated to bring earlier songs rushing back to life as Degüello’s visceral wall of sound, the full list of Glasvegas’ Airy Fairy 2027 UK & Ireland Tour dates is confirmed as follows:

  • Sat 1 May – Glasgow, O2 Academy
  • Fri 7 May – Newcastle, Digital
  • Sat 8 May – Manchester, Club Academy
  • Sun 9 May – Leeds, Brudenell Social Club
  • Wed 12 May – Nottingham, Rescue Rooms
  • Thu 13 May – Bristol, Thekla

Released into a wounded, post-pandemic world, Glasvegas’s last album, Godspeed followed the band’s three previous long players into the world, Later...When the TV Turns to Static (2013), Euphoric Heartbreak (2011) and the debut album that launched their storied breakthrough period, Glasvegas (2008). Helping to define the soundtrack for the millennium’s first decade, the band’s platinum-certified debut album provided airwaves and playlists with the singles, Flowers & Football Tops Geraldine and Daddy's Gone.
