“If you think debut singles are bound to be timid, think again. With ‘At Night,’ Belgian duo Esther & Fatou, have provided a forceful statement/question that stands to make them stand out. LISTEN TO ‘AT NIGHT’ HERE
Esther & Fatou are a folky dreampop duo hailing from Leuven, Belgium. Both vocalists, they take you on a melodic journey with their enchanting voices guiding you along the way. Their songs, while sounding charming and lighthearted at first, have an intriguing dark edge. You might think it’s Alice in Wonderland, but without knowing they take you right down the rabbit hole.
‘At Night’ is their first single. “It’s a song about the way everything is seen in a different light at night”,Esther & Fatou explain, “the track was inspired by a nighttime walk through the city, when we began to wonder about ourselves and other people. In a very organized society in which everyone is expected to make a distinct contribution, there comes the night: full of chaos, where everyone is left with nobody but themselves and their thoughts, insecurities and secrets. Somehow the nighttime raises more questions about existence and faith. And by morning; they all seem to disappear. The song takes you on a journey through darkness, melancholy and the confrontation with your own thoughts.”
Produced by Gaetan Vandewoude (of the beloved Belgian indieband Isbells) and mixed by Luke Smith (Foals, Anna Of The North, Slow Club) it’s the perfect introduction to Esther & Fatou’s wonderful world of dreamy Americana, shapeshifting from joyful to gloomy...
