Tig releases new single, “Ferris Wheel.”

Australian singer-songwriter Tig (Natasha Lieschke) captures the bittersweet beauty of growing up, growing apart and wishing time could stand still on her new single, “Ferris Wheel.” Drawing on the emotional intimacy of artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen, the track is a sweeping, nostalgic reflection on friendship, distance and the little traditions that keep us connected. Inspired by a real-life annual ritual with friends at a small indie music festival in regional Victoria, Australia, the song centres on a particular moment when the Ferris wheel stops at the very top, leaving its passengers suspended above the colourful chaos of the festival below, with nothing but stars and distant hills stretching out ahead. For Tig, that fleeting moment became a metaphor for the way we sometimes wish we could put life on pause, hold onto the people we love and revisit the simpler days before everything began to change. “That’s the kind of pause button I sometimes wish I had for life,” she explains, “just a few quiet minutes to take in the view before it all changes again.”

Produced and mixed by Oscar Dawson at Eddie’s Studio in Rye, Victoria, “Ferris Wheel” marks a particularly powerful moment for Tig, who had been performing the song live for more than a year before finally finding the expansive sound she had always imagined for it. What began as an intimate piano composition gradually grew into something much bigger, with Dawson’s soaring guitar work and drummer Hannes Lackmann’s explosive performance bringing a new sense of urgency and emotional release to the track. Tig recalls encouraging Lackmann to play louder with every take, a departure from her typically more understated recording sessions. The result is a beautifully layered, emotionally charged song that balances melancholy with hope, capturing that universal feeling of missing someone while believing the connection will somehow endure. “Ferris Wheel” is ultimately about the friendships that shape us, the memories we carry and the impossible wish to return, even for just one day, to a time when the lights hadn't come on, the last song hadn't ended and the whole world still felt like it was ours.
