Jus now expands its worldly sound on new recmix project

Two musically-rich regions: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Bristol, United Kingdom have the DJ/producer duo known as Jus Now as their unofficial musical ambassadors. While known through international music circles as cross-cultural beatsmiths signed to Feel Up Records (founded by Jillionaire of Major Lazer), Jus Now is continuing to build their global-minded brand through Way Up Remixes. Jus Now’s newest offering, out today, is a compilation of reworked songs from this February’s Way Up EP, plus a remix of the title track from their Alone EP.

Jus Now turned to their extended family of producers representing Tokyo, London, and New York to add a new layer to their catalogue. Part2Style, a Japanese sound system, remixed “Dun D Place,” the single from Way Up featuring Stylo G. The “Dun D Place” video, directed by Tom Swindell, featured Tokyo’s dancehall queens and influential figures in the city’s nightlife scene directly influenced by the Caribbean. “I think the most important aspect to Jus Now is cultural exchange,” said Sam Interface one-half of Jus Now. “I feel like in this day and age there is so much anger and fear mongering in the mainstream media about people from other parts of the world and their cultural differences. We need to embrace each other’s differences, learn about them and celebrate them,” he added in an interview with Pigeons and Planes where Jus Now gave an exclusive preview of their Road Man Remix. Sly-One from Bristol, is a fellow bass collective that brings a rolling procession of thumps and whistle sound effects to “Way Up” that mirrors Jus Now’s uptempo party vibe.

This spring has been a key moment for Jus Now’s reintroduction of their classic material. The group’s 2014 smash-hit “Truck On D Road” featuring Bunji Garlin was placed in the U.K. international trailer for The Fate of the Furious—the widely-celebrated eighth installment in the Fast and the Furious movie franchise. The stage has been set for another hot summer for Jus Now to take their show on the road to festivals such as Love Saves the Day, Nass, and Boomtown. When Jus Now’s LAZAbeam explored Russian classical music to inspire the original Way Up EP, it took their sound to a new dimension. The next step for the Trinidadian percussion master and Sam Interface was to push the envelope again musically and culturally on Way Up Remixes.
