Leon Of Athens reveals official video for 'Xenos'
London-based Greek indie-pop star Leon Of Athens has released the official video for his new single ‘Xenos’, which premiered with Dork Magazine. The song is the title track of his acclaimed new album out now through Universal.
The video is a dramatic and surrealistic work of art, which features a cast of Men In Black-type agents (including Leon) running scientific tests on human subjects played by a collection of parkour artists. Made in collaboration with some of the leading figures in the Greek art scene, the video is directed by the acclaimed Yiannis Dimoltisas and choreographed by Rootlessroot. It also includes the famous Japanese parkour athlete Masa Suzuki.
The ‘Xenos’ video is the second in a series of Black Mirror-style “alternative present” videos created by acclaimed Greek directors and award winning cinematographers, showcasing the breadth and vision of Leon’s forthcoming album.
It follows the release of the ‘Utopia’ video, which follows the love story of a man (played by Leon) and his romantic relationship with a plant in a world where plants are treated like humans and romantic relationships form between them. It was directed by Gregory Rentis and written by the award winning and Oscar nominated screenwriter Efthimis Filippou (Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer).
The original Greek meaning of ‘Xenos’ translates to stranger, and according to context is also interpreted as alien, guest, foreigner or enemy. Regarding the release Leon says,“’Xenos’ was initially inspired by the genocide of indigenous peoples. The song refers to any oppressed group of people who are forced to leave their land. On a personal note, it also refers to the feeling of being a stranger to your own self.”
Leon Of Athens is currently touring the UK extensively in support of Xenos throughout February, appearing at many universities around the country. He started the tour with a sold out headline show at London’s The Lexington earlier this month and will play a further five shows in London in February.
Following this he heads to the USA in March, where he performs at Okeechobee Festival in Florida alongside the likes of Arcade Fire, Travis Scott & Foster The People and at South By South West in Austin, Texas.
