Rina Sawayama NEW single 'Cherry' out now

Today sees the latest release from London-based pop futurist Rina Sawayama with her new single ‘Cherry’ – out now the [PIAS] imprint Different Recordings.

The addictive new single is the second release of new music from Rina in 2018 since the release of her mini-album ‘RINA’ last year. ‘Cherry’ is a glistening pansexual bop which Rina described to Broadly as “definitely my most personal but political”. The track sees Rina’s vocals soar effortlessly over production from friends and collaborators Hoost and Clarence Clarity that is overflowing with spiralling synths and punchy drum loops. Speaking more about ‘Cherry’ to Broadly UK editor, Zing Tsjeng Rina explains “I've always written songs about girls. I don't think I've ever mentioned a guy in my songs, and that's why I wanted to talk about it. For me there's still a lack of representation. I just think the reason why I wasn't so comfortable with my sexuality was because there was no one on TV or anywhere that I could point at and go, "Look mum! This person is what I was talking about!"”

The past 6 months has seen Rina team up with Shamir on her track “Tunnel Vision”, appear on the cover of Clash Magazine, perform with Charli XCX at her Pop 2 London show, film a Vogue Meets feature and team up with Nicola Formichetti and i-D for her ‘Ordinary Superstar’ video – watch here.

This autumn sees Rina back on the road with her wigs, outfit changes and dance breaks that leave her fans screaming for more. After a string of sold out shows in the UK and US over the past six months, including shows at London’s The Garage and New York’s Mercury Lounge, Rina recently announced her forthcoming US fall tour alongside a show at London’s Heaven in October.
