Screw Houston release new single " Hospital Beds,"

Dutch outfit Screw Houston have released Hospital Beds, the first single to be taken from their as-yet-unannounced new album, a record which will mark their ten year existence. The song tackles the struggle and strife encountered by immigrants in search of a better life. The accompanying video - produced by Rise Revive’s Ray Slavenburg - captures this grim essence of this unfortunate reality with gripping intricacy, adding a visceral layer to Hospital Beds’ already hard-hitting undertones.

Hospital Beds explores the intensely emotional struggle immigrants go through on a daily basis in their search to make ends meet, and how many sell their own internal organs just to be able to afford a journey towards better living conditions. It also concerns the dubious conditions these decisions are made under, with many an immigrant having been duped out of their own organs without a better life at the end of the tunnel. An illusion, in essence. As lead singles go, it’s an incredibly strong offering from Roelof de Brouwer and co., and one which should go far in cementing their status as one of Holland’s most prolific and powerful alternative rock bands. Screw Houston are a Dutch punk rock band based between Utrecht and Brabant, fronted by enigmatic vocalist Roelof de Brouwer. Joining him are Matthijs Krikke (guitar), Dennis Verschoor (guitar), Marc van Gastel (drums) and Anthony Hobo (bass). The band formed in 2009 as a post-hardcore group, changing their sound a few years down the line as it headed down an anthemic, alternative punk rock path which takes its cues from modern day greats such as Foo Fighters, Hot Water Music and The Menzingers. Over the course of their ten year existence, the band have performed live throughout the entire Benelux region, sharing stages with the likes of Zebrahead, John Coffey, Trade Wind and I Against I. The band have also made appearances at Jera on Air, Festival de Beschaving, Breda Barst and Eurosonic Noorderslag, the latter of these as part of a showcase in conjunction with White Russian Records.

In 2016, Screw Houston released the well-received single All Rise, which was taken from last year’s Like Fighting Snakes EP. The band subsequently went on to perform more than 30 shows across the country during 2017, making a solid mark on the Dutch punk scene which laid the foundations for an exciting future. That exciting future commences next year as the band celebrate their tenth anniversary with the release of a brand new studio album, as well as an anniversary tour.
