“to love and to lose”, which, just a week ago, nearly didn’t see the light of day, has already been met by huge support from industry and fans alike. With the likes of RAYE, Lauren Laverne and Chlöe Bailey rallying behind Dylan and her music, she is delighted to release the track today with Universal Music. Co-produced by Duck Blackwell (Halsey), Jamie Scott (Justin Bieber) and Mathi Wang (AURORA) - “to love and to lose” explores the complexities of loss and the darker shadows it can cast over us. Pairing huge pop hooks with Dylan’s instinctive guitar-driven sound, the track creates space for the feelings we often struggle to face and gives us permission to feel them loudly.
Dylan says – “This song, for me, is not about heartbreak or rage, but something quieter and more unsettling. It’s the inability to feel anything real having been through pain, grief and loss. Quite literally, it is the idea of trying to be with someone else whilst believing I am to blame for why I cannot feel the way I once did. I wrote it at 2am in a cab home from a party when I couldn’t find a song quick enough that matched the emotion I needed to heighten. It has soundtracked every cab home since.”
Over the past year, Dylan has entered a period of self-discovery, untangling the raw, buried emotions left behind after a turbulent chapter in her personal and professional life. From processing profound, life-changing loss to finding her footing in the music industry, stepping back gave her a fresh perspective on what being an artist means to her. By confronting these feelings head-on, she unlocked new creative ground and gained greater clarity on why her art exists - the fruits of which are primed to feature on her long-awaited debut album (more news to follow soon).
“to love and to lose” marks a defiant and welcome return of one of the UK’s most exciting voices.
About Dylan
Dylan – whose real name is Natasha Woods - has built a devoted following with her high-octane, guitar-charged pop and electrifying live shows.
Raised on a steady stream of AC/DC, Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses, Dylan jumped headfirst into her dad’s record collection. While her friends covered their bedroom walls with pop’s next big stars, she filled hers with posters of rock titans including Angus Young and Queen - artists she still cites as major influences today.
A self-proclaimed “sad kid”, writing and performing became a vital outlet for Dylan, helping her transform her inner sadness into a louder, bolder and more confident version of herself. From the age of six, she’d perform with her guitar for her parents from the kitchen table, dreaming of stadium lights and a career in music.
Since releasing her first music in 2021, Dylan has accumulated over 100 million streams and released three EPs as well as her UK Top 20 mixtape, The Greatest Thing I’ll Never Learn, which The Observer described as “scuffed-up songs of emotional turmoil [that] make a lot of sense”.
Her rebellious, high-energy shows have become communal experiences, with audiences hanging onto her every word. After selling out headline shows across the world, including London’s Eventim Apollo, Dylan has taken her live performance to even bigger stages, supporting Yungblud, Ed Sheeran and Tate McRae on tour.
Her growing industry acclaim has included a place on the Sound Of list in 2023, alongside support from fellow artists including Raye and Rachel Chinouriri. But beyond the praise, it’s Dylan’s connection with her audience that truly sets her apart. Her beautifully chaotic world offers her diehard fans somewhere to see themselves; a space to relate, to feel understood, and to feel it all together.
