The Atlas Moth premiere Actual Human Blood via Metal Hammer; Coma Noir released next week
On the meaning behind the track, guitarist/vocalist, David, commented: "The concept of cults and cult mentality is explored throughout Coma Noir. We write these songs in part to inspire others to think for themselves and be entertained, but mostly to remind OURSELVES of the journey we all have taken to come to these realisations”.
Coma Noir - their fourth album - marks a few firsts for the band; it’s the first release for LA indie metal, Prosthetic Records, it’s the first to feature Mike Miczek (Broken Hope) on drums, and it’s the first time the band worked with an outside producer. On previous releases, the band’s guitarist/vocalist, Andrew Ragin handled production duties. This time around, longtime friend, Sanford Parker (Eyehategod, Voivod) stepped in to steer the Coma Noir ship. An outside voice, one that the band was comfortable with, was key to channeling all the different elements the band brings to the table and keeping everything cohesive and concise.
As the title suggests, the writing process was influenced by film noir, mixed with a love for the story telling found in graphic novels. Although it stops short of being a concept album, the threads of the initially planned narrative weave throughout the album's nine songs, a vehicle for real life experiences and emotions. Lyrically and thematically it stays loose, but clues are littered throughout; is the private detective hot on the heels of an evil cult anything more than a shadow or a figment of our imaginations? Coma Noir is the only way to unravel it all.
The band will kick off their 2018 touring plans with North American tour with Royal Thunder and Mirrors of Psychic Warfare; further tour dates including European shows are expected in due course.

About The Atlas Moth
Formed in 2007, the band came up during an outpouring of heavy Chicago bands. Their self-released EP, Pray For Tides, was thick with sludgy licks and was a welcome addition to the city’s burgeoning output. They released a full length in conjunction with on Candlelight Records, toured with Helmet and Crowbar and then signed to Profound Lore and released what many called 2011’s album of the year, An Ache of the Distance. The band promoted that record worldwide, playing with Gojira, Devin Townsend, Intronaut and many others before releasing the aforementionedThe Old Believer. The roadwork put in for that release included dates with Between The Buried and Me, Scale The Summit, The Ocean and others.
The album will be available on all digital platforms, digipack CD and three limited edition LP variants. A run of clear with black spatter will be limited to 366 copies and only available in retail outlets worldwide. A clear with white splatter edition of 200 copies were pressed and only available in the Prosthetic US and European webshops. A deluxe version including an investigative case file envelopment containing confidential lyric sheets, photographic evidence, mysterious clues and more is only available in the Prosthetic US store and is strictly limited to 100 copies, making this first pressing totaling 666 copies worldwide.
