Today, ULTRA SUNN have released their debut full-length via Toronto's Artoffact Records. 'US' is a sonic window into the undeniably strong bond between Sam & Gaelle, and in turn, the core of ULTRA SUNN. The album further demonstrates the band's ability to create songs which portray the same feeling whether you are interested in the lyrical content or the unforgivingly infectious beats and has something for listeners of all kinds.
On the new album, Sam & Gaelle comment:
"We are so happy to release our first album and to give it to you.
This album is about all of us.
We are thrilled to hold this object in our hands and to be able to present it to you as a whole in which we have put all of ourselves. We are so grateful to see how much the words and music already resonate with you, and we just can't wait to come meet you, sing, and dance to the tracks with you all. It’s our album, it’s yours, it's about US."
'US' is titled as such for a few reasons – in addition to being the initials of the band name and a reference to two albums that they love (VU/Velvet Underground AM/Arctic Monkeys), it reflects the bond between Sam & Gaelle being stronger than ever, a new musician joining them on tour, and the bond that they have created with their audiences. "It’s our album, it’s yours, it’s about US,” comments the band.
Embarking on multiple legs of touring throughout this year with select festival dates (Sick New World, Catch One, Resistanz, Dark Malta, Verboden, Amphi), the band will embark on an EU / UK run before switching continents. Then, the USA tour will take the band from Denver, CO through Seattle, WA, when they will return to Europe for another EU leg, including a special album release party at the Orangerie au Botanique in their home town of Brussels on June 1st.
ULTRA SUNN expresses a desire for modernity through its themes, fresh approach to sounds and collaborations (Kontravoid, Kris Baha, Curses, Sarin), while being the heirs of the famous Sound Of Belgium and classical EBM.
Their 3 previously released EPs called ‘Night is Mine’, ‘Body Electric’ and 'Kill Your Idols’, all borrow from their activities in classical arts and fashion shows, their New Beat and EBM inspirations and their desire to create dancing and luminous hymns about self improvement, gender equality, and fighting against anxiety. Always with an inclusive, powerful and positive spirit.
A lauded live act, the band has regularly played alongside Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, DAF and A Split Second. All upcoming tour dates are listed below.
