Hlmtd Brengt Album Fangs Uit

Het Londonse collectief HMLTD heeft vandaag hun plaat FANGS uitgebracht. Op hun derde album introduceert de band een nieuw geluid: een extreme, elektronische heruitvinding van goth. De orkestrale rockopera‐aanpak van hun goed ontvangen vorige plaat The Worm maakt plaats voor Ableton‐gedreven rave‐synths, beats en rauwe gothic‐ en black‐metal vocals.

Over deze nieuwe richting vertelt frontman Henry Spychalski:

“Soon after The Worm, we spent a full year - and virtually the entirety of the advance given us by our label - making an ‘indie’ album about a particularly traumatic breakup I went through. It embodied everything we have always been against, artistically and philosophically: safeness, obviousness, conservatism, not to mention self-pity. For us, art should be revolt: a contra, an against. And if it isn’t at least trying to be new, then what’s the point?”

Deze ervaring leidt ertoe dat ze radicaal het roer om hebben gegooid en daaruit ontstond het album FANGS.
