Dutch-Danish folk grunge trio Subterranean Street Society are back with 'Kindness'
Subterranean Street Society have just released their new single 'Kindness', to raving reviews (Existential Magazine, Music News Monthly, Mystic Sons, PUBLIC PRESSURE, Rock Culture) and international airplay (Pinguin Radio, Sword Radio UK). The single followed a support tour through Germany with Laura Cox and is followed by a series of new releases.

‘Kindness’ was written during a hitchhiking trip Subterranean singer Louis made with his Irish friend Stevie through Malin Head, the most northern point of Ireland. The lyrics are basically a diary entry from that road; snapshots of landscapes, conversations, and the strange clarity you get when you are moving without a plan.
“We immersed ourselves in Irish folklore during that trip. Stories about spirits, death, and fate. All of it felt very close to the surface there. At the same time, Glen Hansard’s ‘Say It To Me Now’ was on repeat, almost like a travelling companion. That song and the honesty in it seeped into the writing of ‘Kindness’.”
A lot of the lyrics also come directly from conversations Stevie and Louis had while walking and waiting for rides. The kind of talks you only have when you are far from home; about life, death, meaning, and what actually matters.
“The title ‘Kindness’ comes from the fact that we were completely dependent on strangers. Every mile we travelled was given to us. It made the world feel fragile but generous at the same time.”
“I originally wrote it as a traditional folk song, pretty much campfire style. But when I brought it to the band, we turned it into something bigger; an alternative folk grunge track that keeps the emotional core intact while giving it weight and movement. To me, it feels like the ultimate road trip song. Raw and cinematic. The kind you will blast while driving through wild, beautiful scenery, preferably Irish, but any view will do.”
Based in Amsterdam, Danish–Dutch trio Subterranean Street Society blends raw grunge energy with folk storytelling. Their songs hit like confessionals, shifting between fragile honesty and explosive power. Their sound lives somewhere between Nirvana and Mumford & Sons.
