Subterranean Street Society to release new album BLEEP

Subterranean Street Society will release their new album BLEEP via Polymoon Music in 2024 on March 8. The album was recorded in Utrecht (NL) and was produced by the band's bassist Ivo Johan Schot. The new single Focus On The Melody is out now.

BLEEP was born out of a post-covid urge to perform live again. Whereas previous albums by the band were created during an extensive process, this album was written and recorded in one year. This time the songs were written with the entire band to focus on the energy of playing together. In addition, the album's lyrics are less personal for the first time, vocalist Louis Puggaard-Müller says the following: "Although the songs touch on several themes that have occupied my mind in recent years. At the center of all the lyrics is a person who wants to be liberated. Liberated from prejudice, polarization, smartphones and maybe even society as a whole. For me, one of the overarching questions of this album is, "Who determines what the dominant narrative is in our society? Or as I say in the title track BLEEP, 'Society is the Real Cult'."

On the previously released song God Couldn’t Save The Queen, Louis wonders why we still put royalty on a pedestal and the newest single Focus On The Melody is a raging garage rock track about modern society's dying tension curve. "I wanted to write a rant about the absurd amount of time we spend behind our screens and how we're basically constantly ingesting the fast-food equivalent of image. Short images, quick quotes and half stories pounded into our heads at a rapid pace." As such, the album is a reflection on the current zeitgeist. Watch the video below.

BLEEP was recorded on a Tascam 388, an 8-track do-it-yourself tape recorder from the late 1980’s. In an effort to enforce limitations and dive into a more lo-fi roots/grunge sound. Expect fuzz-up bass guitar feedback, dirty resonator guitar, cutting backings, up-tempo garage drums combined with Louis' signature raw vocals. The result is an uptempo folk-grunge album.

The single Only Your Sins Know, taken from the album Twelve Steps (2020) was featured under Netflix series Ragnarok. The song got more than one million streams. This album was also the band's debut in its current formation. The band has already toured the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, England, Italy, Russia and New Zealand. Currently, the band is participating in the Popronde with 23 shows. The album release tour starts in the Netherlands in March, followed by a tour in the UK in May.
