In 2013 they left The Barn enchanted. Two years and a new album later they are making their return to Rock Werchter. Alt-J will be giving us some delightfully intense musical moments on Friday 26 June. It's a done deal. They join Foo Fighters, Muse and Pharrell Williams, who were earlier announced for Rock Werchter 2015. More festival news to follow soon.
Alt-J is all about magical music from the North of England. The band members studied film and literature at Leeds University. They spent their spare time rehearsing, then rehearsing some more. They practiced for two years solid. First as Daljit Dhaliwal - after the BBC presenter of the same name - then as Films and then as alt-J. Type that on an Apple keyboard and you get Δ or the Greek letter delta, which is used in maths to indicate a change in the natural order. And that is more or less what alt-J has done with pop history. They turn masses of historical musical currents into fabulous discoveries of sound. Of their first Werchter in 2013 the Belgian weekly Humo wrote: ‘How much provocative beauty can a person take, and how much sugary emotion? In The Barn alt-J altered life as we know it.’
